Introducing Yourself on the First Tee
Shake hands, say your name, mention you're new. That's all you need.
Do
- Introduce yourself to playing partners — first name is fine
- Mention if you're a beginner — most golfers are happy to help and know to be patient
- Shake hands and wish everyone a good round
- Set a positive tone — smile and relax
Don't
- Don't be silent and avoid conversation — even a quick 'nice to meet you' goes a long way
- Don't apologize excessively for being a beginner — just mention it once and play your best
Beginner-safe script
“Hey, I'm [Name]. I'm still learning the game — appreciate your patience out there. Have a great round!”
Why it matters
Golf is deeply social. A good first impression on the first tee sets the tone for 4+ hours together.
