Playing Ready Golf

Ready golf = hit when you're ready and it's safe. Don't wait for formality.

Do

  • Hit when you are ready and it's safe to do so — don't wait for strict honors every shot
  • If you're closer to the green but the furthest player is taking time: go ahead
  • On the green, the first person whose ball is near the hole can putt first if ready
  • Communicate: 'Go ahead if you're ready' is always appreciated

Don't

  • Don't stand around waiting if you're clearly prepared and others are still deciding
  • Don't demand strict honors in a casual round — it wastes time

Beginner-safe script

“Go ahead whenever you're ready — I'll play when you're done.”

Why it matters

Ready golf keeps play moving and is actively encouraged by the USGA and PGA for all casual rounds.
