Slow Play Warnings on a Busy Course
If the marshal says speed up — do it. No argument.
Do
- If a marshal or ranger approaches about pace, listen respectfully
- Acknowledge the issue, pick up the pace from that hole forward
- Consider having all players pick up after double par to save time
- If truly falling behind, let the group behind play through a hole
Don't
- Don't argue with the marshal or get defensive
- Don't promise to speed up and then continue at the same pace
Beginner-safe script
“You're right — we'll speed up from here. Thank you for letting us know.”
Why it matters
Slow play affects everyone on the course. Marshals are doing their job — take their feedback positively.
