Chip Shot — Bump and Run
Close to the green with no obstacles between ball and hole. Best for tight/fringe lies.
Grip
Grip lower on the handle (choke down). Light but firm. Wrists stay quiet — no flip at impact.
Stance
Very narrow. Feet close together. Weight 60–70% on front foot from start.
Ball position
Back of stance (near right foot for right-handers).
Posture
Stand slightly closer to the ball than a full shot. Hands ahead of the ball at address and at impact.
Swing thought
Pendulum motion — shoulders rock, arms swing, wrists stay firm. Think: 'push, don't flip.'
Contact goal
Ball first, then minimal turf. Ball launches low and runs to the hole.
Common mistake
Flipping wrists through impact to 'help' the ball up. The ball doesn't need help — trust the loft.
One-minute drill
Set up in your living room. Practice 10 chips with no ball, focusing on keeping wrists firm and hands forward at the bottom.
This is a beginner refresher, not professional instruction — see a PGA pro for swing changes.
