Fairway Bunker Shot
Fairway bunker with low-to-medium lip, 50–150 yards to the green.
Grip
Grip down ¾–1 inch to compensate for feet being lower in sand.
Stance
Narrow stance. Dig feet lightly into sand for stability.
Ball position
Center to slightly back of center.
Posture
Weight balanced, minimal lower body movement during swing. Upper body dominated swing.
Swing thought
Pick the ball cleanly. The key difference vs. a greenside bunker: hit BALL FIRST (no sand before ball).
Contact goal
Clean ball-first contact. No sand before impact. Will fly slightly shorter than from fairway.
Common mistake
Trying too long a club — check the bunker lip first. If you can't clear the lip with a particular club, go to a more lofted one.
One-minute drill
Practice on the range: grip down and hit 5 shots with a 3/4 swing — focus on clean contact before anything else.
This is a beginner refresher, not professional instruction — see a PGA pro for swing changes.
