Half Wedge Shot (50–60 Yards)

50–65 yard approach shots where a full swing would overshoot.

Grip

Grip down 1 inch for better control at reduced yardage.

Stance

Narrow stance (inside shoulder width). Slightly open.

Ball position

Center of stance.

Posture

Weight slightly forward (60% front foot). Stay in posture throughout.

Swing thought

Lead arm to 9 o'clock (horizontal) on backswing, 3 o'clock on follow-through. Consistent arm-length swing = consistent distance.

Contact goal

Crisp ball-first contact. Moderate height, controlled landing.

Common mistake

Making a full swing and trying to 'ease off' mid-swing to reduce distance. This always causes deceleration. Use arm-length control instead.

One-minute drill

Stand at the range and hit 10 half-swings (arm to 9 o'clock). Note the average distance. That's your half-wedge distance.
