Pitch Shot — Higher Trajectory
20–50y shots needing to carry over a bunker or obstacle and stop quickly on the green.
Grip
Slightly firmer than chipping. Maintain this pressure through impact.
Stance
Narrow, open stance (left foot pulled back slightly).
Ball position
Center to slightly forward.
Posture
Weight 60% on front foot. Slight forward shaft lean (hands just ahead of ball).
Swing thought
Hinge and hold. Wrists hinge on backswing, then drive through with body turn. Don't let the wrists flip.
Contact goal
Ball-first contact, small divot. High-arcing flight that lands softly with minimal roll.
Common mistake
Trying to scoop the ball up rather than letting the loft work. Also: deceleration — commit to the swing.
One-minute drill
Set up for a pitch, make 5 swings with eyes closed. Focus on what it feels like to have the clubhead swing through without flipping.
This is a beginner refresher, not professional instruction — see a PGA pro for swing changes.
