Short Putt (Inside 6 Feet)

All putts inside 6 feet. These must-make putts for bogey or par.

Grip

Whatever grip you use for long putts — stay consistent. Keep grip pressure steady throughout.

Stance

Narrower than lag putts. Feel connected and stable. Some players keep feet very close together.

Ball position

Just inside left heel.

Posture

Eyes over the ball. Set up slightly closer to the ball. Head absolutely still — a moving head causes misses.

Swing thought

See the line, set up to the line, commit, head stays still, listen for the sound of the ball dropping.

Contact goal

Center of the face, on the start line. Firm enough to hold the break.

Common mistake

Peeking — looking up before impact to watch the ball. This is the most common cause of missed short putts. Eyes down until the ball is long gone.

One-minute drill

Place a ball 3 feet from the hole. Hit 10 putts focusing only on keeping your eyes on the ball's starting spot until you hear it drop. Don't look up.
