Tempo and Rhythm
Every swing — tempo is not situational, it's constant.
Grip
Light grip enables proper tempo — tight grip kills rhythm.
Stance
N/A — applies to all swings.
Ball position
N/A.
Posture
Relaxed and balanced. Tension destroys tempo.
Swing thought
Most tour players have a backswing-to-downswing ratio of approximately 3:1 (slow back, fast through). A common thought: '1-and-2' where '1' is the start of the backswing, 'and' is the top/transition, '2' is the downswing through impact.
Contact goal
Tempo produces maximum energy transfer at impact without loss of balance.
Common mistake
Rushing the transition — jerking the club down from the top of the backswing before the body has completed the turn. This causes over-the-top swings and slices.
One-minute drill
Swing in slow motion — 50% speed. Note the pause at the top. Then gradually build to 80%, then full. Each speed should feel 'slow' compared to the one before.
This is a beginner refresher, not professional instruction — see a PGA pro for swing changes.
