Apron
Course Areas
Explained Simply
Another term for the fringe — the transitional grass area between the fairway and the putting green.
Example
“A bump-and-run chip from the apron can roll up nicely onto the green.”
Why it matters
The apron is a great place to land a chip — slightly firmer than the green but close enough for a straightforward chip or putt.
Common beginner mistake
Treating the apron the same as the rough — it's usually much shorter and easier to play from.
