Greensomes (Scotch Foursomes)
Game Formats
Explained Simply
A two-player team format where both partners tee off, then the team picks the best drive and plays alternate shots from there until the ball is holed.
Example
“You and your partner both drive on hole 1. Your partner's drive is better. You hit the second shot, your partner hits the third, and so on, alternating until it's in.”
Why it matters
Greensomes is more beginner-friendly than pure alternate shot (foursomes) because both players tee off. The best drive always starts the hole.
Common beginner mistake
Confusing greensomes with foursomes — in greensomes, both players tee off and you pick the best drive. In foursomes, only one player tees off per hole.

- Four-BallTwo-person teams play their own balls; lower score counts. Can be played as stroke play or match play.
