Lip Out

Shot Types

Explained Simply

When the ball rolls to the hole, hits the rim (lip), spins around the edge, and stays out instead of dropping in.

Example

“Your 5-foot putt catches the right side of the cup, spins 270 degrees around the rim, and pops back out. Heartbreaking.”

Why it matters

Lip-outs are part of golf. Stay calm and tap in — you still have a stroke to make.

Common beginner mistake

Blaming bad luck after a lip-out — often the ball didn't have quite enough pace or was offline by a millimeter.
