Shank
Shot Types
Explained Simply
A shot hit off the hosel (the socket where the shaft meets the clubhead) that shoots sharply to the right and usually very low.
Example
“You make contact and the ball shoots 45 degrees right at low speed — it hit the hosel, not the face.”
Why it matters
Shanks feel awful and can happen to any player. They're usually caused by getting too close to the ball at impact. See a pro — don't try to self-diagnose.
Common beginner mistake
Panicking after a shank and overcompensating by standing further from the ball — often causes the next shot to be topped.
