Attended Flag

Rules

Explained Simply

When a player or caddie holds the flagstick while another player putts, then removes it before the ball reaches the hole.

Example

“You have a long lag putt from off the green. Ask your partner to 'tend the flag' — they hold and remove it once your ball is rolling.”

Why it matters

You can have the flag attended from any distance. It helps you aim. Under current rules you can also putt with the flag in — no penalty.

Common beginner mistake

Removing the flag when your partner was using it to aim. Always ask first.
