Divot

Etiquette

Explained Simply

A chunk of turf displaced when your club strikes the ground during a shot. You should replace it or fill it with the sand/seed mix provided.

Example

“Your 7-iron shot takes a satisfying divot. Replace the chunk of grass by pressing it back down, or fill the hole with the sand mix in your cart.”

Why it matters

Unfixed divots create bad lies for other players and damage the fairway. Repairing them is one of golf's most important courtesies.

Common beginner mistake

Not repairing divots because you're focused on where the ball went. Fix it before walking away.
