Pitch Mark (Ball Mark)
Etiquette
Explained Simply
The indentation your ball makes when it lands on the putting green. You must repair it with a divot tool or tee.
Example
“Your approach shot hits the green and leaves a small crater. Insert your divot repair tool behind the mark, lever it forward, then smooth with your putter.”
Why it matters
Unrepaired ball marks take weeks to heal and create bumpy putts for everyone. Repair yours AND an extra one nearby if you see one.
Common beginner mistake
Using the divot tool incorrectly — don't pry UP (it tears roots). Push inward from multiple sides to close the mark.
