Divot Repair Tool (Pitch Fork)

Equipment

Explained Simply

A small two-pronged metal or plastic tool used to fix ball marks (pitch marks) on the putting green. Push the prongs in around the mark and press the turf back flat.

Example

“After your approach lands on the green and leaves a crater, pull out your divot tool, insert it around the edge of the mark, and press the turf inward from all sides to level it.”

Why it matters

Unfixed pitch marks take weeks to heal and create bumpy surfaces for other players. Carry one in your pocket and use it after every approach shot.

Common beginner mistake

Prying the turf upward with the tool — this tears the roots and makes healing slower. Always push the turf inward from the sides.
