Hybrid (Rescue Club)
Equipment
Explained Simply
A club that blends a wood and an iron — easier to hit than a long iron, with a forgiving head that helps get the ball up in the air from almost any lie.
Example
“Instead of a hard-to-hit 3- or 4-iron, you carry a 4-hybrid that launches the ball higher and straighter from the fairway or light rough.”
Why it matters
Hybrids are some of the most beginner-friendly clubs made. Replacing your long irons with hybrids is one of the easiest ways to hit more good shots.
Common beginner mistake
Sticking with long irons because that's what's in the bag. Most new golfers hit hybrids far more consistently.

- LoftThe angle of the clubface relative to vertical. Higher loft = higher, shorter shots. Lower loft = lower, longer shots.
- Carry DistanceHow far the ball travels through the air before it first hits the ground. Does not include rollout after landing.
- Lie (Club Spec)The angle between the shaft and the sole of the club. Getting your lie angle fitted correctly helps the ball fly straighter.
