Carry Distance
Equipment
Explained Simply
How far the ball travels through the air before it first hits the ground. Does not include rollout after landing.
Example
“You carry your 7-iron 130 yards, then it rolls 10 more yards to your target = 140y total. The carry is 130y.”
Why it matters
Carry is what matters when there's water or a bunker in front of you — you must carry that hazard, not rely on roll.
Common beginner mistake
Using total distance (carry + roll) when planning to carry a hazard. Always use carry distance for water and bunkers.
