Tempo

Shot Types

Explained Simply

The rhythm and pace of your swing from start to finish. A smooth, consistent tempo is more important than raw speed.

Example

“Think '1-2-3' as you swing: slow backswing (1-2), accelerate through (3). Rushing the backswing destroys tempo.”

Why it matters

Good tempo leads to consistent contact and reduces mishits. Most beginners swing too fast at the top of the backswing.

Common beginner mistake

Jerking the club back quickly and then lurching at the ball. Slow back, accelerate through.
