Bogey
Scoring
Explained Simply
Finishing a hole in one stroke MORE than par. On a par-4, a bogey is a score of 5.
Example
“You need 3 shots to reach the green on a par-4, then 2 putts = 5 strokes = bogey.”
Why it matters
Bogey golf (averaging one over par per hole) is a realistic and honorable goal for developing players. Many recreational golfers play bogey golf for years.
Common beginner mistake
Thinking bogey is bad. It's not — it's a solid score for most beginners and casual players.
