Course Rating
Scoring
Explained Simply
A number (like 71.4) that reflects how difficult a course is for a scratch golfer under normal conditions. Think of it as the 'expected score' for an expert.
Example
“A course rated 71.4 means a scratch golfer is expected to shoot about 71 there.”
Why it matters
Used alongside slope to calculate your handicap differential, making scores comparable across different courses.
Common beginner mistake
Confusing course rating with par. They're different numbers.
