Slope Rating
Scoring
Explained Simply
A number (55–155) that tells you how difficult a course is for an average golfer compared to a scratch golfer. Higher slope = harder course. Average is 113.
Example
“A beginner-friendly course might have a slope of 105; a tough championship course might be 140.”
Why it matters
Your handicap is adjusted based on slope when you play different courses, keeping competition fair.
Common beginner mistake
Choosing a high-slope course as a beginner. Start at shorter, lower-slope tracks.
