Gross Score
Scoring
Explained Simply
Your actual total stroke count for a round, before any handicap strokes are subtracted.
Example
“You shoot 95 strokes for 18 holes. That 95 is your gross score.”
Why it matters
Gross score is the raw number — what you actually shot. Net score is what you shot after your handicap is applied. Tournaments often post both.
Common beginner mistake
Confusing gross and net score when comparing with other players. Always clarify which number you're talking about.
