Headcover
Equipment
Explained Simply
A protective cover — usually made of fabric, leather, or knit — that fits over the head of a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, or putter to prevent scratches and dings during transport.
Example
“After your tee shot, slip the headcover back onto your driver before it goes into the bag so the clubface and paint don't get nicked.”
Why it matters
Drivers and woods are the most expensive clubs in the bag. A headcover keeps them in good condition and protects the face from chips.
Common beginner mistake
Not replacing headcovers — club heads rattle against each other in the bag and get scratched up over time.
