Mulligan

Common Phrases

Explained Simply

An informal do-over of a shot, typically used on the first tee. Not allowed under official rules — it's a casual-play courtesy only.

Example

“Your first drive flies out of bounds. A friendly group might say 'take a mulligan' — hit another ball without counting a penalty.”

Why it matters

Great for relaxed rounds with friends. Never use in official play, tournaments, or when posting a handicap score.

Common beginner mistake

Taking mulligans during every round and not learning from missed shots. Even in casual play, try to limit them.
