Smash Factor
Equipment
Explained Simply
A measure of how efficiently you transfer club speed to ball speed. Calculated by dividing ball speed by club head speed. Max for a driver is about 1.50.
Example
“Club speed 90 mph × 1.45 smash factor = 130.5 mph ball speed. Better contact = higher smash factor.”
Why it matters
Hitting the center of the clubface maximizes smash factor and distance. Beginners should focus on consistent contact over raw speed.
Common beginner mistake
Swinging faster to get more distance — often reduces smash factor and actually decreases distance.
