Triple Bogey
Scoring
Explained Simply
Finishing a hole in three strokes MORE than par. On a par-4, a triple bogey is a score of 7.
Example
“Par-4 hole, you take 7 strokes total = triple bogey.”
Why it matters
Triples and worse are the scores that wreck a round. For beginners, the single biggest way to lower your score is avoiding 'blow-up' holes, not making more pars.
Common beginner mistake
Compounding one bad shot with hero recovery attempts. Punch out sideways to safety and accept the bogey or double instead of risking a triple.
